What If Pests Were Social Media Influencers?

Everything looks more aesthetic and trendy on our social media feeds. Filters and templates make all kinds of information more palatable and pleasing to the eye, and it’s even more enjoyable to discover niche influencers who consistently post about their specific interest that appeals to a set audience. Today, we wanted to imagine what it would be like to see some of our most commonly seen pests on our favorite social media apps, and what their content would focus on depending on their preferences and interests. Let’s take a fun journey and imagine what it would be like to follow these pests on an app.

Ants – Food Influencer

This food-loving pest would definitely have a page that focuses on all things food and drink. Since ants are constantly on the hunt for food for their queen and colony, their social media would also be about the best-looking food. Ants would likely post about new restaurant discoveries, favorite recipes, and grocery store finds every day. Their stories would be filled with polls and questions about what food their followers loved the most and what the ants should try next. Also, since ants are eusocial and live with a colony of ants, they would constantly feature their friends and family in their posts. Dinner parties and Sunday brunches would be the stars of their feed, and everyone would want to try the easy recipes for themselves. Their feed would make everyone hungry with their extensive photos of every meal and grocery store haul that they purchase.

Bed Bugs – Home Decor Influencer

Bed bugs will make their homes anywhere that there is a reliable food source of warm blood. Their preference is predictably beds, but they can also live in couches, chairs, and behind wallpaper. This is why they would have social media pages that focus on home decor and making the most aesthetically pleasing home. They would post about their latest decor finds while shopping, different ways to rearrange furniture for the most functional space, and the best themes and furnishings for different seasons. Their favorite space to post about would be the bedroom, where they would frequently change the wall decor and throw pillows to match the current holiday or season. Bed bugs would become so influential and popular (due to their abundance in real life), they would score the opportunity to design their own line of bed sheets and quilts with their favorite bedding designer. Bed bugs would be the most popular home influencer that inspires the public to arrange the home of their dreams.

Bees – Flower Influencer

Predictably, bees would post anything and everything about flowers. Fun flower facts, different variations, and Flower of the Day posts would be rampant in their feeds. They would have the dreamiest photos focusing on different flowers they find on their daily nature outings. Bees also seem like the type of crafty influencer that would use all parts of the flower in their endeavors, since they use the pollen and nectar of flowers in real life. They would post DIY guides on how to craft the best and most aesthetic flower crowns, garlands, and bouquets. Any soon-to-be bride would know to direct message bees on social media to learn about their best options for wedding flowers depending on the season, location, and wedding colors. Anyone who is even remotely interested in flowers would definitely follow bees on social media because of their sunny disposition and fascination with the natural flora in our world.

This niche type of influencer is perfect for centipedes. Centipedes have a nightmarish amount of legs (around 15-177 pairs), which means they would have a very extensive shoe collection. Their social media would feature the newest shoe drop as soon as they get access to it. For each shoe post, they would feature a try-on video, photos modeling the shoe, and their honest opinion on the comfort level and visual appeal. They would try shoes of all kinds, but their favorites would be sneakers since they are the most comfortable and the best for walking many steps. They would also be happy to answer questions about which shoe to wear to a certain occasion and which ones are the most essential to a collection. Crickets – Music Influencer

These chirping insects are constantly making music that is personal to them, since male crickets have quite a few different songs depending on the stage of the mating process they are in. If they had social media, crickets would definitely be music influencers that post covers, samples, and original songs. Their songs would basically all focus on their love life, since that is the purpose of their mating songs. They would go viral multiple times because of their beautiful voice and unmatched talent. Once they secure their record deal, crickets would add music videos and album announcements to their feed. But crickets would also be very likable online despite their immaculate singing skills; they would remain humble and understated in public, similar to how they like to stay hidden in real life. And when they secure their world tour, crickets would bring their beloved online music to the live venues.

Fleas – Animal Influencer

Fleas love animals in real life, especially dogs and cats, but for more annoying and destructive reasons than their social media would be about. Fleas would feature all kinds of animals on their feed, but their favorite would be dogs. They would post funny or cute videos and pictures that their followers submit and feature their own appreciative comments about the animal in their captions. Fleas would also have a group chat with their family, since they only live with their family on a host to feed upon, and would post all of the animal memes that inevitably come from this chat. They would also post a lot of pets doing tricks and playing fetch, since that means they will go outside. Flies – Travel Influencer

Flies like to fly wherever they can, hence the name, to find any decaying organic material in which to feed and lay eggs. Because of this, they would definitely have a travel page on social media. This page would be way more aesthetic and glamorous than their real lives, so flies would have millions of followers who want to learn more about the various cities and countries they visit. They would favor simpler places that have a higher population with delicious food and lots of plants. Flies would feature quite a bit of food on their pages as well, especially hot meals. Their food reviews would make their page stand out from all of the other travel pages, since their followers know that flies would be honest about the quality and quantity. They would eventually get paid to travel because of brand deals and sponsorships, which would almost immediately give them frequent flyer miles (get it?).

Mosquitoes – Drink Influencer

Is this a little too on-the-nose? Maybe! But it does seem rational that mosquitoes would love sharing their favorite drink finds on their social media platforms. Any kind of crazy, expensive, or sweet drink is bound to be tested and reviewed by these insects. They would also be on the hunt for the best Bloody Mary, of course, and would have the highest standards for their favorite drink. They would vacation in all of the warmest, most picture-worthy vacation spots and be sure to snap some pictures of their beverage every time. But they would not be above posting their top local or chain restaurant drinks, since any kind of sugary drink is good enough for them. Mosquitoes would also share their top recipes for easy homemade beverages so that their followers can feel like they’re also on the beach, sipping a cold drink with their favorite drink influencer.

Rodents – Family Influencer

It is only natural for the famous nesting pest to have a parent blog. The mother rat or mouse would be happy to share all of her parenting tips and stories, from their favorite games to play with their kids to how to make a meal that everyone in the family will enjoy. They would post their children constantly, but only because they believe their kids are the best in the world. But the favorite topic of mother rats or mice would be the nesting stage and the time immediately following birth, of course. They would be encouraging role models for any of their followers who are new parents, since the rats and mice would never turn down an opportunity to tell a new mom how great she is doing. And all of the nesting advice on how to make the coziest home out of any housing situation would be sure to help parents around the world.

Spiders – Craft Influencer

The webs that spiders spin are some of the most intricately designed works of nature, but they are often written off as gross and annoying (especially when you walk into one!). Since spiders are so good at this craft, it’s only natural to assume that they would be the ultimate DIY craft influencer. They would try their hand at any arts and crafts project and will almost always create a work of art without really trying. Spiders would dabble in painting and pottery, but their favorites would always be embroidery, knitting, and crocheting. Spiders would share their advice for making the best art pieces in any medium, and would be that kind of influencer that says “it’s so easy” about every craft, when it isn’t for those of us without that natural gift. With the combination of their natural talent and hard work, the intricate designs that spiders would create within their crafts are worthy of a museum.

Termites – Business Influencer

Although termites may seem like another crafty influencer, they would likely be a business social media star. They would post all kinds of business advice for people in the working world, especially in corporate jobs where they may not feel like what they do is very exciting or impactful. Termites would be there to assure everyone that every position and level is exciting, important, and necessary. Since their castes consist of workers, soldiers, and swarmers, termites know the importance of delegation and teamwork. They would post motivational quotes constantly, with some kind of message about how everyone is important and no one should be ignored or looked down upon in the workplace. Termites would also have a focus on family and how off days should be spent with those you love, due to their social nature. Anyone who is in the working world would love following termites on social media because they would walk away feeling inspired and valued.

Wasps – Fitness Influencer

The zippy hardworking nature of the wasp leads us to believe that they would be a famous fitness influencer. They would be the type of social media star to push their followers to a better life by being motivational yet intense in all of their posts. Wasps wouldn’t berate their followers for leading a different life than them, but they would definitely believe that the wasp’s life is the best life. Their “I don’t care what you think of me” attitude would definitely either draw in or repel a lot of people, since some people love that kind of motivation. Wasps would post all kinds of exercises and ways to incorporate movement into a normal day, since they are constantly on the move. Their favorites would be at-home workouts because they like to stay near their home in real life. Wasps would post an oddly high amount of protein smoothie recipes, but that’s only because that would be their favorite food and how they keep their stamina and energy so high.
