Finding an Infestation

  • Bites: Bed bugs bite. They feast upon you while you soundly sleep. Often, bed bug bites occur in groups, or lines. If you are noticing new bites each night, it is time to look more signs. Remember though, there are many bug bites that can be confused with bed bugs. The best way to know for certain is to look for more signs.
  • Spots: Bed bugs are lazy. While they drink your blood, they also defecate. Take a close look at your sheets and the clothing you wore to bed. Look for small, brown to reddish spots. If you find these stains, and you are getting bit you might have a bed bug infestation. If you want to know for certain, it’s time to take a closer look.
  • Flashlight: You are going to need to take a closer look inside of your room. Bed bugs are photophobic, meaning they do not like light, which is why it is hard to spot them during day. For the next sign of an infestation you are going to look for actual bed bugs. First, grab a flash light and a plastic sandwich bag and head to your bedroom. Pull off your sheets and take a look at the edges of your mattress and box springs. You are looking for a flat insect that is about the size of an apple seed. The next place to look is around your bed. If you have nightstands, pull out the drawers and shine your flashlight up inside. If you have pictures, take them off the wall and look behind them. If at any time you find a bug, put it inside the plastic bag. Having a sample will allow a Pointe Pest Control technician to identify the bug.
