- Flashlight: You are going to need to take a closer look inside of your room. Bed bugs are photophobic, meaning they do not like light, which is why it is hard to spot them during day. For the next sign of an infestation you are going to look for actual bed bugs. First, grab a flash light and a plastic sandwich bag and head to your bedroom. Pull off your sheets and take a look at the edges of your mattress and box springs. You are looking for a flat insect that is about the size of an apple seed. The next place to look is around your bed. If you have nightstands, pull out the drawers and shine your flashlight up inside. If you have pictures, take them off the wall and look behind them. If at any time you find a bug, put it inside the plastic bag. Having a sample will allow a Pointe Pest Control technician to identify the bug.
