Beetles comprise of 40% of all insects and 25% of all our planet’s lifeforms. There are more than 400,000 beetles on earth, which inhabit nearly all ecosystems except for the polar regions and the sea. One similarity a beetle shares with a cockroach is the hard exoskeleton but their physical characteristics differ. Beetles have 3 distinct segments with 3 pairs of legs and and a set of wings that fold out from under the beetle’s shell. They have large heads with distinctive mandibles for chewing. The beetle is typically smaller than a cockroach and has a harder body. Beetles eat other insects which are usually pests, which makes beetles a friends to humans.

Cockroaches are flat and oval with 6 legs and long, slender antennae coming from their heads. They typically emit a foul odor and can run very fast. These insects have a shield like structure that comes over their heads so that from the top, you cannot see their eyes and head. Cockroaches are known to spread and carry diseases, which puts you and your loved ones at risk.
