Pathways into your Home
In order to understand how mice get inside, you have to think like a mouse. The first thing you need to do is grab a marker and head outside. You are going to perform a visual inspection of the outside of your home. If you find any cracks or holes, use the marker to determine the size. If the marker can fit inside, so can a mouse. That’s right; a mouse can fit into a hole that is roughly the size of a dime. Pay close attention to the areas where your gas, electrical and water lines enter your home. The spaces around your doors and windows are also prime areas to inspect. If you find holes, use silicone caulk to seal it up. If the hole is large, buy some steel wool and caulking compound. Mix them together and plug the hole. Remember, that wood, plastic, and rubber are terrible materials to use as plugs. Mice can chew right through them. A mouse can jump a foot in the air and are excellent climbers, so keep that in mind while you are inspecting the outside of your home.
