Do bed bug bites hurt?

As they feed, bed bugs inject an anticoagulant anesthetic to keep you from feeling the bite as they continue to feed on your blood for 5 minutes or so. They return to their hiding place and soon you will begin to develop itchy, red welts as your skin reacts to the bed bug saliva.
