How Bed Bug Infestations Spread
Did you know that bed bugs are becoming more of a problem even here in Naperville? In fact, each week there are at least six calls into the DuPage County Health Department reporting bed bugs infestations. You might wonder why the number of bed bug infestations is on the rise. The answer is simple, bed bugs love to hitchhike.
Sneaky, Sneaky Bed Bugs
Bed bugs don’t fly, they cannot even walk very fast; however, they know how to hitch a ride and they are expert at hiding. If you carry a purse, they can hide inside. If a briefcase is more your personal item, bed bugs will hide inside of that too. Bed bugs can hide in your laptop, back packs, suitcases, gym bags, duffle bags and even on your clothes. Knowing that bed bugs can travel home with you is one thing, knowing where they can travel from will make you squeamish to leave your home.
The Infamous Bed Bug
When you think of bed bugs, you might think of a rundown hotel. Unfortunately bed bugs can be found in the dirtiest and cleanest of locations. They don’t care about dirt; they just want your blood. Bed bugs are not just limited to hotel rooms. You will be surprised to know that these devious insects have been found nearly everywhere. Office buildings, libraries, hospitals, army barracks, movie theaters, restaurants, schools, day cares, public transportation, are all places where bed bug infestations have been discovered. In fact, there was even an infestation found in a person’s car. If that ever happened, you would never feel the same about driving to work. Whenever you visit a location that has bed bugs, you run the risk of bringing them home with you. Bed bugs are always on the lookout for a new host. If they hitch a ride on your clothes or bag, you won’t like what happens after you bring them home.
